About Us

Milton Village Community Association started at Shelford Road Hall (in the grounds of Meon School) in the late 1980’s and as it grew we acquired a second site, now known as Milton Village Hall.   For 10 years we operated as a split site until Jack & Jill Preschool, based at Shelford Road Hall, outgrew the building so we relinquished this site for the Preschool to take over and concentrated all our activities at the one site at Milton Village Hall.

After several years struggling to manage with just one hall, thanks to Portsmouth City Council, Veolia, Awards  For All and Langstone Church we’ve now got 2 new extensions; a brand new larger 2nd hall and a brand new purpose built coffee shop/meeting room.  This now gives us 3 spaces for hire and an excellent coffee shop known as Pure Ground (Pure Ground) which is run by Langstone Church, and all the profits will be ploughed back in to the community (see ‘Pure Ground’ page for more info).

The community centre is managed by a volunteer management committee who are elected at the annual AGM, usually held between October-January each year. The committee elected in January 2025 included:

Chair:          Mrs Bridget Tregoning
Vice Chair:  Mrs Angela Barnes
Secretary:   Mr Paul Pritchard
Treasurer:   Mr Alan Gibbs
Committee Members:
Mr Les Eyers
Mrs Sheila Porter
Mrs Julie Boulter
Mrs Marjorie Davies
Kimberly Barrett
Mr Steve Pitt
Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson
Cllr Nick Dorrington
Cllr Peter Candlish

Sadly, our lovely Val Peach, who was one of the original members and has served on the committee for many years, passed away last summer (2025).  Val & her husband, John, helped with everything – from painting & decorating, gardening, taking trips and helping at events!  Val will be so sorely missed.

The Association employs one full-time centre manager, Allison Udy and a part-time receptionist/clerical assistant, Jennie Barrow, plus two part-time cleaners, one for week days (Jennie Barrow) and one at the weekends (Liz Smith).
